Mary Sanden is excited to be teaching the vocal arts at the Grace Milliman Pollock Performing Arts Center. This wonderful facility provides her with the ideal combination of a private voice studio housed within a state-of-the-art theatre. Students can take what they learn in the studio and apply it to their solo or choral singing, or better yet to the musical theatre stage just steps away.

She’ll instruct her students in proper posture, breathing, and breath control. Other items covered will include: increasing range, blending strong and weak parts of the voice, as well as learning a comfortable stage presence. These are all skills that will serve the voice student who is singing for a large audience, or simply addressing a class for a presentation.

Mary comes from a family of musicians and has a history that is rich in a variety of musical styles. Prior to college, she sang and played in various ensembles and loved each year she performed in musical theatre. She studied vocal and flute performance at Lebanon Valley College, earning a dual B.A. in Music Performance in Voice and Flute, while also performing in musicals. She remains a busy artist in both arenas, and has had the honor to use her musical skills in solo, choral and orchestral work in both Tampa, Florida, with the University of South Florida Masterworks Society, and Central Pennsylvania, with Bel Voce and Harrisburg Singers. Additionally, Mary has served as the Vocal Director of the Camp Hill elementary musicals since 2009, and works with the Pollock Center’s Camp Hill Youth Summer Stage program.

Teaching Philosophy: Regardless of each student’s ability, everyone can learn to sing, whether it’s for the stage or just for fun!
